Moti’s resolution was that even if the landlord failed to pay her for the milk and her labour, she would not fail in her duty.
The pundit was under a vow for performing a certain ritual for which he needed the milk at dawn.
She came late on the first day of the ritual because the boatman did not turn up that early even though Moti informed him of the need for her to cross the river.
Moti's naivety is clearly demonstrated when she believed the pundit's words about crossing the river by simply uttering the name of Lord Vishnu. She took his jocular remark seriously and attempted to cross the river by merely chanting the deity's name, without realizing that the pundit was speaking in jest. This incident reveals her innocent and gullible nature, as she did not understand that the pundit was making a spiritual or philosophical point rather than giving her practical advice for crossing the river.
