Child Development & Pedagogy
Development of the child (6–11 years), influence of heredity and environment, learning and pedagogy, inclusive education, motivation and assessment.
Tamil & English (Language I & II)
Comprehension (prose and verse) plus the pedagogy of language development — language skills, acquisition, teaching-learning materials and remedial teaching.
Mathematics
Numbers, operations, measurement, money, geometry, data handling and patterns — with the pedagogy of mathematics at the primary level.
Environmental Studies (EVS)
Family and friends, food, shelter, water, travel, things we make and do — plus EVS pedagogy: concept, scope, significance and activities.
Paper 2Paper 2 Syllabus (Classes 6–8)
Child Development & Pedagogy
Development of the adolescent learner (11–14 years), learning theories, inclusive education and children with special needs, and assessment for learning.
Tamil & English (Language I & II)
Comprehension passages plus language pedagogy — principles of language teaching, language skills, evaluation and remedial teaching.
Mathematics & Science (60 marks)
For maths/science teachers: upper-primary maths (number system, algebra, geometry, mensuration, data handling) and science, with their pedagogy.
Social Science (60 marks)
For social science teachers: History, Geography, Civics and Economics — plus the pedagogy of social science.

Qualifying marks
A minimum of 60% — that is, 90 out of 150 marks — is needed to qualify.
Category relaxation
BC, MBC, SC, ST and PwD candidates get a relaxation in qualifying marks as per TRB and Government of Tamil Nadu norms.
Validity
The TNTET qualifying certificate is valid for a lifetime.
Use of the certificate
TNTET is an eligibility test; qualifying it makes a candidate eligible for teacher recruitment in Tamil Nadu government and aided schools.
EligibilityWho can apply
Paper 1 (Classes 1–5)
Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with the required marks and a Diploma in Teacher Education / D.El.Ed (or equivalent) — candidates in the final year of the qualifying course may also apply.
Paper 2 (Classes 6–8)
A Bachelor's degree with B.Ed (or equivalent), or graduation with a Diploma in Elementary Education, as specified in the TRB notification — final-year candidates may also apply.
