Sample questions from this chapter

A matrix with 3 rows and 2 columns has order
  1. 3 × 2 ✓
  2. 2 × 3
  3. 3 × 3
  4. 2 × 2
Answer: A. Matrix order is number of rows followed by number of columns, hence 3 × 2.
Why not B: Rows and columns are reversed; order is stated as rows × columns.
Why not C: The row count is used for both dimensions.
Why not D: The column count is used for both dimensions.
If \(A=\begin{pmatrix}1&2\\0&1\end{pmatrix}\) and \(B=\begin{pmatrix}2&0\\3&1\end{pmatrix}\), then AB is
  1. \(\begin{pmatrix}2&4\\3&1\end{pmatrix}\)
  2. \(\begin{pmatrix}2&4\\3&7\end{pmatrix}\)
  3. \(\begin{pmatrix}8&2\\3&1\end{pmatrix}\) ✓
  4. \(\begin{pmatrix}2&4\\0&1\end{pmatrix}\)
Answer: C. Row-column products give AB=\(\begin{pmatrix}1·2+2·3&1·0+2·1\\0·2+1·3&0·0+1·1\end{pmatrix}=\begin{pmatrix}8&2\\3&1\end{pmatrix}\).
Why not A: This multiplies some corresponding entries and carries others unchanged.
Why not B: The lower-right entry is formed as 3·2+1·1, using a row of B instead of a row of A.
Why not D: The contribution from the second row of B to the first row is omitted.
If \(A=\begin{pmatrix}1&1\\0&1\end{pmatrix}\), then Aⁿ is
  1. \(\begin{pmatrix}1&n\\0&1\end{pmatrix}\) ✓
  2. \(\begin{pmatrix}1&n²\\0&1\end{pmatrix}\)
  3. \(\begin{pmatrix}n&1\\0&n\end{pmatrix}\)
  4. \(\begin{pmatrix}1&1\\0&n\end{pmatrix}\)
Answer: A. Writing A=I+N with N²=0 gives Aⁿ=I+nN=\(\begin{pmatrix}1&n\\0&1\end{pmatrix}\).
Why not B: The off-diagonal increments add once per multiplication; they do not square.
Why not C: The diagonal 1s remain 1, while the off-diagonal grows.
Why not D: The growth is assigned to the lower diagonal entry instead of the upper off-diagonal.

This chapter test has 30 questions — 10 easy, 14 medium and 6 hard — all written against the NCERT Class 12 chapter.

Is this NEET Maths chapter test free?

Yes. Every chapter test is free with no login, and you get your all-India rank on every one. Nothing on the site is on sale right now.

Do the questions explain the wrong options?

Yes — every distractor carries its own explanation naming the specific misconception that makes a student pick it. That is the part most question banks skip, and it is the part that changes your next attempt.
